Sarcomas are rare malignancies that develop in the connective tissue of the body (ie, fat, blood vessels, nerves, bones, muscles, deep skin tissues, and cartilage). Sarcomas can be divided into 2 main groups—soft-tissue sarcomas and bone sarcomas. Public awareness of sarcomas needs to become a priority, because the rarity of the disease remains a barrier to adequate research, as do financial resources that can improve patient outcomes.
